Rescue Dynamics - Summer Climbing Courses
A two day course to introduce the basic aspects of rock climbing and ropework. Moving on rock, knots, harnesses, simple anchors, belaying and rappelling are the foundations of rock climbing and this course. (If you have climbed a few times at an artificial wall but never on real rock, this is the place to start.) No experience necessary. Add a third day for a real rock climb or a summit climb. An introductory letter containing further details for prospective course applicants can be viewed online.
The course for those people who have already taken basic rock (prerequisite) and have gone on a few climbs. Learn more about the new modern anchor concepts, including the use of pitons, passive chocks, camming devices and more. Improve your climbing skills and learn about multi-pitch climbing. Pick up valuable knowledge on safety and other important considerations. Add a third day for some more multi-pitch climbing. An introductory letter containing further details for prospective course applicants can be viewed online.
Once you have completed intermediate rock and you think you are ready to begin climbing more ambitious routes Advanced Rock may be the next significant step forward. Geared toward the techniques necessary to begin leading and climbing new routes and to begin route development on sport or neo-traditional routes. Time is spent in honing and fine tuning changeovers at belays to improve speed on long routes. Rappel station management to get off those long routes before dark is part of the program. Short roping is reviewed for speed on long alpine routes. Advanced Rock includes an introduction to the use of expansion bolts and responsible bolting practices using both electric and hand drilled bolts. This course may include an attempt at a first route ascent on a new sport or traditional line or retrofitting an existing climb or rappel route (with permission of first ascensionists).
This course is not regularly scheduled and is offered only as a private or semi-private course. Advanced Rock is a four day course with options for five or more days available. Enrolment is limited to persons whose past experience shows they are ready for this big step forward in climbing. Prerequisites include Intermediate Rock. Alpine Climbing is highly recommended. A detailed resume is required from each participant before acceptance into this innovative newly revised program. Email your resume and we can begin planning this exciting program for you and your partner.
